Why Iyengar Yoga?

Iyengar yoga encourages precision in the

asanas (posture work) and so the student develops an understanding and awareness of posture alignment and safety. Pupils learn through a systematic programme of asanas (postures) allowing the body to learn movement in a structured way. Iyengar teachers are trained in the use of props: bricks, foam pads, blankets, wedges, ropes etc. to assist the student in each asana (posture), which allows more precision and comfort in their pose.

B.K.S Iyengar, after whom the method is named, has dedicated over 70 years of his life to the practice and understanding of yoga. He is widely regarded as yoga’s greatest teacher of modern times. His books on the principles of yoga are classics, and are collectively held to be the highest authority on the subject by thousands of teachers across the globe.
